UPDATING NORTHSTARDB (FILEMAKER SERVER HOSTED
NORTHSTARDB)
PART ONE – PREPARE FOR UPDATE
In the case of FileMaker Server hosted NorthStarDb the update process must using FileMaker Pro on a single machine after FileMaker server is shut down.
● Shut down your FileMaker Server.
● Copy the NorthStarDb files from your FM Server folder to a folder on a client machine which
has FileMaker Pro on it.
● Download and Mount or unzip the NorthStarDb update files to a seperate folder or your desktop.
PART TWO – SECURE YOUR DATA.
While all your data should be brought over to you new NorthStarDb, to be safe make a backup copy of
your entire NorthStarDb folder and store it in a save place.
PART THREE – BACKUP YOUR DATA TO TEXT FILES FOR DATA TRANSFER
● Open NorthStarDb in FileMaker Pro (not FM Server).
● Choose the Settings button from the Main Menu then the Update button from the settings Menu.
● Choose the Backup button. This will start the backup process and create a number of new files
in your NorthStarDb Folder.
● When the exporting is finished close NorhtStarDb
PART FOUR – UPDATE YOUR NORTHSTARDB DATA.
● Copy the file NorthStarDBData.FP7 from the new NorthStarDb
files you downloaded and paste it replacing your existing
NorthStarDBData.FP7 file.
● Copy the file NorthStarDBData.FP7 from the new NorthStarDb files
you downloaded and paste it replacing your existing
NorthStarDBData.FP7 file.
● Run your NorthStarDb. (Login with nsuser / nsuser or Admin /Admin if your user settings did not transfer).
● From the Main Menu, choose Settings.
● Choose the Update menu choice and then choose Restore. This will import the data you saved in the Backup step into the various NorthStarDbData tables.
● When the “Restore” step finishes choose OK, return to the Main Menu and then QUIT to exit
NorthStarDb.
● When you you next start NorthStarDb you will be presented with the new registration splash
screen and the first use assistant.
PART SIX – TEST AND MOUNT UPDATE
● Test you updated NorthStarDb to confirm that all worked as it should.
● Copy the updated NorthStarDb and NorthStarDbData files from the folder you did the update
in to your FM Server folder
● Startup your FileMaker Server.
● Delete the temporary folders and files used in the update process from the NorthStarDb directory.
YOU ARE DONE.
Your NorthStarDb interface and programing will have been updated and your data loaded into the new NorthStarDb version.
