UPDATING NORTHSTARDB (FM Pro hosted)
If you have a version of NorthStarDb prior to .91.3.2 (the 12/8/2006 release) you will need to have an extra file not in the update. If you are still using a runtime with .NSD extensions, e-mail for assistance.
If your NorthStarDb is hosted on a network using FileMaker Pro you will do the update from Machine hosting the copy of NorthStarDb. Make sure that all other users are out of NorthStarDb prior to performing the update.
PART ONE – SECURE YOUR DATA.
While all your data should be brought over to you new NorthStarDb, to be safe make a backup copy of
your entire NorthStarDb folder and store it in a save place.
● Make a copy of your entire existing NorthStarDb Folder to another location or a writable CD/DVD.
● Test that copy to be sure ALL of the NorthStarDb files are in your backup. Note, NorthStarDb must be on a read/write disk to run and will not run form a CD but you can see and count the number of files and see their names.
● Download and Mount or unzip the NorthStarDb update files to a seperate folder or to your desktop.
PART TWO – BACKUP YOUR DATA TO TEXT FILES FOR DATA
TRANSFER
● Open NorthStarDb.
● Choose the Settings button from the Main Menu then the Update button from the settings Menu.
● Choose the Backup button. This will start the backup process and create a number of new files
in your NorthStarDb Folder.
● When the exporting is finished close NorthStarDb
PART THREE – UPDATE YOUR NORTHSTARDB DATA.
● Copy the file NorthStarDbData.FP7 from the new NorthStarDb
files you downloaded and paste it replacing your existing NorthStarDbData.FP7 file.
● Copy the file NorthStarDb.FP7 from the new NorthStarDb files
you downloaded and paste it replacing your existing NorthStarDbData.FP7 file.
● Run your NorthStarDb. Login with nsuser / nsuser or Admin /Admin.
● From the Main Menu, choose Settings.
● Choose the Update menu choice and then choose Restore. This will import the data you saved
in the Backup step into the various NorthStarDbData tables.
● When the “Restore” step finishes choose OK, return to the Main Menu and then QUIT to exit
NorthStarDb.
● When you you next start NorthStarDb you will be presented with the new registration splash
screen and the first use assistant.
YOU ARE DONE.
Your NorthStarDb interface and programing will have been updated and your data loaded into the new NorthStarDb version.
